What is the SID Tune Information List (STIL)?
See STIL FAQ. The most relevant fields provided by STIL are:
- the relative file path using "/" as file separator
- the NAME field
- the AUTHOR field
- the TITLE field
- the album subfield
- the ARTIST field
- the COMMENT field
- the TIMESTAMP subfield
Should we keep extra information in STIL or put it directly into tags in SAP files?
As I resisted STIL for many years, here's how I got convinced to it: (pfusik)
- It's very well documented.
- We have lots of existing entries.
- It was easy to support it in ASAP.
- SID players require the user to locate the STIL file. But if you search for the file automatically, no user intervention is required to show additional potentially interesting information.
- The information is easy to understand if you reformat it instead of showing it as-is.
- Ramos was lobbying it all the time. ;)
The current version of the ASMA STIL is available at https://asma.atari.org/asma/Docs/STIL.txt. The ASMAS STIL:
- Uses UTF-8 encoding to support Unicode characters. Note that this is different from the HVSC STIL, which is in plain ASCII.
- Support Unicode values of up to 90 Unicode characters for all tags
- Requires the relative file path to consist only of ASCII characters and to not exceed 99 characters.
Note:
See TracWiki
